Dear Parents,
This is the 11th
week of 2009-2010 Chinese School. Thanksgiving is around the corner. Happy Thanksgiving!
First of all, I would like to
thank Richard Hu, a Montgomery High school junior, for his work on the design
of the new web page for our Chinese School.
Secondly, The upcoming referendum of
Montgomery School District is on Dec. 8th of 2009. Please click http://www.mtsd.k12.nj.us/montgomerytsd/lib/montgomerytsd/Promotional_material.pdf
for details.
I would like to highlight the
importance of passing this referendum. If we don’t pass this: Alternative will cost
taxpayers more. Our BOT and the School urge
Montgomery parents to go out to vote “Yes” on this referendum on Dec. 8th
of 2009
1. This is
work that needs to get done: UMS is 40 years old, OHES bathrooms that are
being renovated and resized are 45 years old and designed for older (taller)
students, OHES roof is 30 years old, mold issues will persist until obsolescent
HVAC systems are replaced with units that remove moisture.
2. State pays 40 percent of cost:
40% of the $24 million in capital spending will be funded through a $9.5
million State matching grant.
3. Anticipated tax impact on the
average Montgomery home is $163/year and on the average Rocky Hill home
is $94/year.
4. Alternative will cost taxpayers
more: If the referendum does not pass, Montgomery and Rocky Hill will be
funding 100% of the projects through the annual school budget process or
another referendum without the benefit of State matching grant. In
addition, the annual appropriation of funds for capital projects will increase
the annual tax levy by MORE than that of a 15-year bond and reduce the funds
available for educational programs due to combination of state-imposed budget
caps and need to increase funds for capital projects from $0 in 2009-10 to at
least $1 million for 2010-11.
Mr. Kim, Montgomery
Superintendent will come to our school at 2:00pm, on
Dec 5th at room C104 for the FAQ of referendum.
Also please pay attention to the following this week:
1) Please come to school on time and pay extra attention to the traffic when dropping your child off at the school. We will require a student to sign in if he/she comes to school late
